　　My Bookshelf
　　You may laugh when your eyes first catch my lonesome but proud bookshelf sitting up in the air over　my upper bunk in the dormitory. However, you will be amazed at it in a moment.
　　It is a little bigger than the face of a school desk: 60 centimeters wide by 70 centimeters tall by 20　centimeters thick. The boards that make up the shelf are no thicker than 1.5 centimeters but are strong　enough to carry out their duty without changing its handsome appearance. The shelf has three layers, two of　which are devoted to books on various subjects. The books on the middle shelf are taller than those on the　upper shelf, and they all stand in perfect order like two rows of soldiers marching through dark night toward　dawn, or say, like two platoons of guards of ceremony waiting for the inspection of some VIP. On the lower　shelf, an ink bottle stands in one corner and a pocket dictionary squats in the other. Beside the ink bottle is an　alarm clock, and some pens lie beside the dictionary. A curtain of white silk is ready to protect the books　from the invasion of any dust. What is surprising is that the bookshelf is not painted. The wood itself gives
off a faint sweet smell and its original color resists decoration.
